Session Four recap is now live

This week we focused conforming. We defined it and brought it into modern perspective.

Session recaps

Session One

Why God reaches people young

Led by Zoe Ebb, Youth Leader

+

We looked at God’s purpose for humanity, why truth planted early matters, and how faith and fear lead people in different directions.

Our focus was on understanding why God places such importance on reaching people at a young age.

We started in Genesis 1:27 and discussed God’s original intent for humanity to reflect Him. From there, we talked about how adults can still be restored by God, but years of fear, false beliefs, and unhealthy patterns can make truth harder to receive later in life.

In Proverbs 22:6, we saw how what is planted early can stay with a person over time. That led us into a conversation about why youth are in a powerful position to receive truth while their hearts and minds are still being formed.

We also looked at Numbers 13 and 14, comparing the fearful response of the spies with the faith of Joshua and Caleb. The lesson was simple: fear exaggerates obstacles, but faith trusts God’s word over what eyes can see.

Our goal is to help students build their foundation in truth now, instead of spending years later trying to untangle lies and unbelief.

Session Two

How the enemy works through lies first

Led by Zoe Ebb, Youth Leader • Prayer by Zoe, Makayla

+

We studied the enemy’s strategy of planting doubt, making wrong look good, and hardening hearts through fear, shame, and repeated lies.

Our focus was on understanding what the enemy wants and how he works. We began with a simple truth: he usually does not come with force first. He comes with lies first.

Starting again from Genesis 1:27, we remembered God’s original purpose for humanity. Then we moved to Genesis 3:1 to 6 and studied how the serpent questioned God’s word, stirred doubt, and made disobedience seem attractive.

We discussed how the same pattern still happens today. The enemy makes wrong look good and truth look boring. He plants lies early through culture, bullying, shame, family issues, and media so that fear, pride, and selfishness grow where love and faith should be.

We compared fear and faith again through Numbers 13 and 14. The fearful report kept people from trusting God, while Joshua and Caleb responded with belief.

We closed with 1 Peter 5:8 and the reminder to stay alert. The enemy looks for access, so we must protect our hearts and help each other stand firm in truth.

Session Three

Repentance

Led by Zoe

+

This session focused on repentance, renewing the mind, and submitting the heart to God’s truth so the word can produce fruit.

Quick recap

This was a Bible study session focused on repentance, led by Zoe with participation from Mikayla, Hayden, Jeffrey, and Kobe. The group discussed the parable of the sower from Luke 8:4-15, examining how different types of soil (hardened, rocky, thorny, and good) affect the growth of God’s Word. They explored what repentance means through various scriptures, including Romans 12:2, 2 Timothy 2:24-26, and Ephesians 4:22-24, emphasizing that repentance requires both renewing the mind through God’s Word and submitting the heart to His truth. The session concluded with discussion questions about areas where participants know God is right but feel resistant, and an announcement about upcoming student night events where participants were encouraged to connect more with new attendees.

Don’t Be Conformed

Big Idea: You become what you stay close to.

+

Conformity is gradual, external, passive, but still your responsibility because you choose what you stay close to.

Don’t Be Conformed

Big Idea: You become what you stay close to.

Key Scripture: Romans 12:2 — “Do not be conformed to this world…”

The Four Things the Word Tells Us

It’s gradual — It doesn’t happen overnight. It happens slowly, over time. That’s what makes it so dangerous — you don’t notice it while it’s happening.

It’s external — The mold is outside of you. Your environment, your friend group, what you watch, what you listen to — those things are all pressing on you whether you realize it or not.

It’s passive — You don’t have to be trying for it to happen. You don’t have to want it. You just have to stay close to it long enough.

But it’s still your responsibility — Because YOU chose what to stay close to. Nobody made you stay. You stayed. And that decision has consequences.

▶ What this means: Notice the progression. First they lived among them. Then they married into them. Then they served their gods. No single dramatic moment of rebellion — just steps. Each one feeling normal at the time.
